precast2 425Pouring deck and setting pre-made deck pieces is like a holiday recipe for these engineers and crews on the new bridge.  With great holiday weather, the crews have been able to complete all of the deck pours on the Illinois section of the bridge.  At the same time, 30 of the 181 precast deck panels over the water have been placed.

Keith Killen, P.E., Project Director for the new bridge, shares the project history and construction progress with more than 50 new Missouri legislators earlier this month.  Good questions were presented by the state representatives, ranging from strategies on bridge improvements to how transportation projects are funded.  MoDOT Director Patrick McKenna also spoke, emphasizing that bridge replacement needs exceed current funding levels.

IMG 1412 425New legislators took a tour of the work site both by land and by bus.   During the bus tour, representatives from MoDOT announced what they were seeing as they passed construction of the new bridge, which is approximately 20 feet from the existing bridge.  Louis Riggs, a new legislator representing nearby Marion County, said to see the project on the new bridge was gratifying.  "We have needed that bridge replaced for many years, and by this time next year, we will be able to drive across a new bridge designed to last for 100 years. That progress is a tribute to the power of collaborating at the regional, state and federal levels across state lines," he said.
