HANNIBAL – The Missouri Department of Transportation has set an aggressive goal to have a new Champ Clark Bridge open to traffic by November 1, 2019. “While the timeline is tentative, one of the advantages to using a design-build process to procure and construct a major bridge is the reduction of time when compared with traditional design methods,” explained Champ Clark Bridge Project Director Keith Killen.
HANNIBAL – Pike County, Missouri and Pike County, Illinois will soon be connected with a new bridge over the Mississippi River on U.S. 54 at Louisiana, MO. “A new bridge is much needed, and we are pleased it’s going to happen sooner rather than later,” said MoDOT Northeast District Engineer Paula Gough.
HANNIBAL – The Missouri and Illinois Departments of Transportation are in the final phase of completing the environmental assessment (EA) for a new Champ Clark Bridge on U.S. 54 over the Mississippi River in Louisiana, MO. The public is invited to a public hearing to make final comments on the EA on Thursday, June 9 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Twin Pikes YMCA, 614 Kelly Lane, Louisiana.
HANNIBAL - The U.S. 54 bridge over the Mississippi River in Louisiana, known as the Champ Clark Bridge, will be closed at Monday, June 13 through Friday, June 17 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. to conduct the annual full-depth inspection. The bridge will be open for the weekend, then will be closed Monday, June 20 through Friday, June 24 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. "Bridge crews out of Jefferson City will bring what's called the Snooper truck to help perform the inspection of the lower part of the bridge," explained Brian Haeffner, MoDOT area engineer. A lift will be used to allow inspectors to check out the upper parts of the truss.
HANNIBAL – An improved funding situation has allowed the Missouri Department of Transportation to increase its ability to take of care of its existing transportation system. This is reflected in the draft Statewide Transportation Improvement Program, or “STIP,” which was presented to the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission today.
HANNIBAL – The Champ Clark Bridge Environmental Assessment has been signed by all necessary parties, which means MoDOT and the Illinois Department of Transportation can now move to the next phase of the project; a step closer to funding and building a new bridge.
HANNIBAL – The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission gave approval to use the design-build method to help move up the completion of a new Champ Clark Bridge. “While this is good news, and we are excited to start this process, we are still identifying the source of our funding,” said Kevin James, P.E., MoDOT assistant district engineer.
WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill today announced the approval of $10 million in competitive federal grant funding to replace the Champ Clark Bridge, a two-lane bridge that connects Louisiana, Missouri with Pike County, Illinois and is nearly a century old.
