HANNIBAL – An open house public meeting will be held on Thursday, August 24 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Twin Pike YMCA, 611 Kelly Lane, Louisiana for those interested in learning more about the new Champ Clark Bridge and the rebuilding of the U.S. Route 54 and the Missouri Route 79 intersection in Louisiana.
HANNIBAL – By Fall 2019, motorists traveling across the Mississippi River on U.S. Route 54 between Illinois and Missouri will enjoy a wider, safer ride. Massman Construction Company, headquartered in Kansas City, was selected today as the best value proposer to design and construct the new Champ Clark Bridge by the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission at its meeting in Bowling Green. Replacement of the bridge is a partnership between the Illinois Department of Transportation and the Missouri Department of Transportation.
HANNIBAL – Weather permitting, the U.S. Route 54 bridge over the Mississippi River in Louisiana, known as the Champ Clark Bridge, will be closed on Monday, June 12 through Thursday, June 15 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. to conduct the annual in-depth inspection. If the inspection is not complete due to weather, the bridge crew will open the bridge for the weekend, then close it again the following week,” explained Brian Haeffner, Missouri Department of Transportation area engineer.
HANNIBAL - Weather permitting, the Champ Clark Bridge on U.S. Route 54 over the Mississippi River in Louisiana will be closed overnight between Monday and Tuesday, April 10 and 11. The bridge will close Monday, April 10, at midnight, and open to traffic on Tuesday, April 11, at 6:00 a.m., MoDOT crews will have the Champ Clark Bridge located on U.S. 54 in Louisiana temporarily closed for routine maintenance.
HANNIBAL – Monday, April 3 through Friday, April 7, the Missouri Department of Transportation and its contractor will have work zones set up on U.S. 54 on either side of the bridge, as well as on Third Street in Louisiana to do some core drilling. There are four locations, and in each area, the highway will be down to one lane throughout each day. “This is one of several things we are trying to accomplish prior to actual work beginning to replace the bridge later this fall,” explained Keith Killen, a professional engineer with MoDOT’s Northeast District and project manager for the new bridge.
The Champ Clark Bridge Team, consisting of Missouri and Illinois Department of Transportation professional engineers, has completed their evaluation of the Statement of Qualifications (SOQs) submitted by potential design-build teams. “These four teams will compete for the contract to oversee the design and construction of a new Champ Clark Bridge on U.S. 54 over the Mississippi River in Louisiana, Missouri,” said Champ Clark Bridge Project Director, Keith Killen.

The Champ Clark Bridge Team will release the Request for Proposals (RFP) on March 1st, 2017. “This means these four teams will receive our formal request to submit their proposals to design and construct the new bridge,” Killen explained.
HANNIBAL – The team working to establish who will help the Missouri and Illinois Departments of Transportation to design and build a new Champ Clark Bridge is making progress. “Since this is a design-build project, we are seeking out industry who may be interested in working on the team, and we’ve held our first meeting with several who have expressed interest,” said MoDOT Project Director Keith Killen, P.E. The Champ Clark Bridge is located on U.S. 54 over the Mississippi River at Louisiana, Missouri.
Last week, about 50 interested contractors, suppliers and consultants attended a meeting at the MoDOT Northeast District office in Hannibal to learn how they can start the process to potentially be selected as part of the design-build team.
